10 Tips For Better Mileage

1. Keep the tyres properly inflated

Maintaining the right pressure in tyres minimizes the roll over resistance between tyre and road. It also provides better stability and gives a comfortable ride. Check air pressure in tyres once a week. If you use nitrogen for inflating the tyres check the pressure once a month. Under inflated tyres increases fuel consumption and over inflated tyres minimizes stability and increases the chance of skidding. Improperly inflated tyres also reduces the tyre life.

2.Keep your ride well maintained

Proper maintenance done periodically helps to get a proper and constant mileage. Periodic maintenance is very essential for good fuel economy. Always get your ride properly serviced at regular time intervals. Apart from fuel economy it also helps to improve the performance and wellness of your ride.

3.Keep your air filter clean

The air filter is similar to the respiratory system of human beings. If an engine breathes well it in turn returns better performance and mileage. A dirty air filter restrict the flow of air into the engine and thus affects the mileage. Check and clean the air filter for every 3000 kilometres. Replace if necessary.

4. Keep the chain tension and wheel alignment properly

A loose chain or a tight chain in motorcycles affects the mileage. So always ensure proper chain tension and wheel alignment for getting better mileage. Improper chain tension causes the driven sprocket to wear at a faster rate besides affecting fuel economy.

5. Keep slow and steady acceleration and maintain constant RPM

Accelerating very fast suddenly from halt or idle consumes more fuel. Slow and steady acceleration is necessary to obtain better mileage. Also maintain a constant speed and RPM in tacho depending on the gear.

6.Keep moving parts well lubricated

Chain, gear, axle and other moving parts has to be well lubricated. It reduces friction which in turn saves engine power and offers good mileage. Check the engine oil level periodically and top up if necessary to proper lubricate the moving parts inside the engine.

7.Keep your vehicle parked in a shady place

About 10-15 % of the fuel gets wasted due to vapourization. Avoid parking vehicles under direct sunlight. Always park the vehicles in cool and shady place. Fill the fuel during early morning hours since the density of petrol is densest during the coolest times. Avoid overfilling of the tank and also ensure the cap of the tank is properly closed after filling up.

8.Do not use clutch too often

Do not use clutch too much. Use clutch when required. Avoid using clutch pressed for a long time. Too much clutch usage always waste lot of fuel.

9.Keep AC switched off when not required

In car use AC when needed. The AC compressor draws its power directly from the engine crankshaft through electronically operated clutch. So the engine consumes more fuel to run the AC compressor and fuel efficiency is decreased

10. Be a good rider/driver until the break in of the engine occurs.

Be a good rider of a bike and a good rider of a car until your ride reaches a proper break in . Proper break in period depends on consistant driving conditions. Ride slow and steady as per the mentioned RPM's for that particular vehicle for a maximum of 5000 kilometres. The average fuel economy and life of your ride depends on proper break in. So be a responsible rider.
